The 2019 world amateur championship is presently under way in Ekaterinburg, Russia, which is rightfully labeled as Ural’s first boxing hotbed. After almost two thirds of the tourney, the championship is about to enter its most important rounds – quarterfinals (on Wednesday), semifinals (on Friday) and finals (on Saturday) – with Thursday being the championship’s single day off.

As always, the Cuban national team is the absolute favorite to win the overall championship with the likes of Lazaro Alvarez, Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo, Arlen Lopez, Julio Cesar La Cruz and Erislandy Savon.

However, not everything is going smoothly for the legendary island nation. #1 ranked flyweight Yosbani Veitia has sensationally lost to Galal Yafai, a representative of the legendary family, whose brothers Gamal and Khalid have been enjoying success as prizefighters.

Team USA is now represented by just two remaining fighters in Richard Torrez and KeyShawn Davis. The former has scored the fastest knockout of this round against Croatian Marko Milun.
