Weigh-In Results: Salido 126 lb, Lopez 125.75 Lb.

It took nearly two hours from the originally scheduled start time to finally get all parties on scale, but the highly anticipated rematch between Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez is set for Saturday night at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Salido (37-11-2, 25KO) weighed in at the featherweight limit of 126 lb, electing to weigh in first despite his status as defending champion. Lopez (31-1, 28KO) came in at 125.75 lb.

The bout is a rematch to what was voted by krikya360.com as the 2011 Upset of the Year, when Salido stopped Lopez in the 8th round of their instant classic last April. 

Lopez was being groomed (or at least the public was being teased) for a showdown with then-fellow unbeaten featherweight titlist Yuriorkis Gamboa. However, Salido put an end to those plans, dropping the Puerto Rican in the fifth round and scoring the upset stoppage two rounds later.

Salido has since successfully defended his title twice, though was forced to survive a major scare in his last bout. The battle-tested Mexican suffered two knockdowns early in his bout with Weng Heya, but dusted himself off and resumed control en route to an 8th round stoppage, thus preserving the rematch with Lopez.

Since suffering the lone loss of his career, Lopez has just fought once. The win – a 2nd round knockout of Mike Oliver – was hardly convincing that the Puerto Rican star is all the way back, looking sluggish early before sending Oliver to the canvas. Lopez scored three total knockdowns in the October bout.

Possibly awaiting the winner of Saturday’s rematch is the victor of the televised co-feature between Miguel Angel Garcia and Bernabe Concepcion.

Garcia was slightly over the featherweight limit at 126.25 lb, but came back on the second attempt to hit 126 on the dot. Concepcion came in at a fit 125 ½ lb.
