Francisco 'Paco' Valcarcel, the president of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), said he is very confident that Mexico's Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs), would knock Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs) out in a rematch.

Mayweather won a twelve round unanimous decision over Canelo back in September of 2013 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight was pretty one-sided with Mayweather using his boxing ability and experience to neutralize Canelo's arsenal.

The fight still remains as the only defeat on Canelo's record. The fight took place at a catch-weight of 152-pounds. After the fight, Canelo claimed that he felt weakened by dropping down that low. He fought at 155 for his next fight contests.

Mayweather retired from the sport last year after dominating Andre Berto over twelve rounds. At the time of his retirement, he held the WBA/WBC titles at welterweight and junior middleweight.

Last month, Canelo returned to 154-pounds and captured the WBO's junior middleweight title with a knockout of Liam Smith at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

"I have no doubt that right now Canelo knock out Floyd Mayweather in a rematch. The Canelo who fought with the English fighter Liam Smith, would have knocked Mayweather out at 154 pounds - I have no doubt about that," Valcarcel said to krikya360.com/Notifight.com.

"Every day that passes, Canelo becomes a better fighter. He has better use of his jab, throws combinations better, has a better chin, he is handsome, intelligent in the ring and most important he has the heart of Mexico. He is the fighter that everyone wants to [face]."

"Canelo is a fighter that boxing needs. Canelo is the only world champion at this time, outside of Manny Pacquiao, who can draw fans to the venues. I do not understand why [the critics] attack Canelo, because he's been very good for boxing. "

There is rocky history between Mayweather and the WBO. After Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao last May in their unification, he picked up the Filipino boxer's WBO welterweight title. Soon after, Mayweather refused to pay their sanctioning fee and the WBO stripped him of the belt. During that period, there were a lot of words thrown back and forth between Mayweather and the WBO.
