The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has scheduled an Aug. 9 purse bid for a proposed fight between flyweight titleholder Anthony Olascuaga and former titleholder Jonathan “La Bomba” Gonzalez.

Olascuaga (7-1, 5 KOs) secured the vacant title in July by defeating Riku Kano in the three rounds in Japan. The 25-year-old Olascuaga, who trains out of Los Angeles under Rudy Hernandez, has won his past two fights after losing to Kenshiro Teraji in April 2023.

Gonzalez (28-3-1, 14 KOs) has competed primarily at flyweight but moved down to junior flyweight after suffering knockout defeats against Jobert Alvarez in 2016 and Kosei Tanaka for the WBO flyweight title in 2019.

The 33-year-old Gonzalez claimed the WBO light flyweight title with a split decision victory over Elwin Soto in 2021 and defended it three times before multiple bout cancellations in 2023. Gonzalez, aiming to become a two-division champion, is managed by Amanda Serrano.
