Everyone did their job at the scale in Mexico City.
Jair ‘Kaiser’ Valtierra and Alberto ‘El Alacran’ Ruiz both made weight for their Telemundo-televised main event, which takes place Friday evening at Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City, Mexico. Valtierra and Ruiz came in right at the 135-pound limit for their scheduled ten-round regional lightweight title fight.
Valtierra (15-0, 8KOs) fights for the third time this year, with Friday marking his second straight appearance both at this venue and as a Boxeo Telemundo headliner. The 19-year-old prospect from Leon, Mexico is coming off a third-round knockout win over Emanuel Lopez this past May, marking the series’ first show to take place in Mexico since the pandemic.
The last show in Mexico City prior to the ongoing global health crisis also featured Valtierra, who emerged victorious on the undercard of a Telemundo show last March.
Ruiz (10-3, 7KOs) fights for the fourth time since the pandemic, going 2-1 over that stretch since resuming his career last August. All three of his career defeats have come in his last five fights, although he enters Friday’s bout on the heels of an upset win over unbeaten Eduardo Martinez this past May in Chimalhuacan, Mexico.
The bout will air at the start of the Boxeo Telemundo telecast, beginning 12:00 a.m. ET/11:00 p.m. local time.
Select bouts from the undercard will air via slight delay, with the weigh-in results listed below.
