College Park Center, Arlington - In a battle for the USBA super bantamweight title, Tramaine Williams (19-0, 6 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over hard punching Yenifel Vicente (35-4-2, 27 KOs). The scores were 97-91, 96-92, 97-91.
This was the fourth bout of the year for Williams, who fought an decisioned Neil John Tabanao less than a month ago.
Coming in, Vicente stopped his last ten opponents. He knocked out Albert Gonzalez back in April.
Vicente began the fight by throwing hard shots, but he was unable to land anything clean. The speed and the boxing ability of Williams was giving him fits, and the defensive movements of Williams were also on display.
In the fifth, Vicente was really letting his hands go and actually began to land a few punches here and there. Williams went right back to work with his boxing skills, on the inside. And also in the sixth, Vicente lost a point for a low blow.
During the seventh round, another big low blow saw a second point taken away from Vicente. Williams took some time to recover and went right back to his boxing. They were trading punches on the inside to close out the round.
Vicente was warned after hitting Williams after the bell at the end of the eight round. Williams continued to outbox and frustrate Vicente as the fight continued.
