Top Rank President Todd DuBoef, who promotes WBC, IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, would love to get his fighter in the ring with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in 2022.
Beterbiev is back in the ring on Friday in Montreal, where he makes a mandatory defense of his titles against Unites States Olympian Marcus Browne.
The Russian puncher is a huge favorite, having stopped all sixteen of his opponents inside the distance.
Canelo, who is currently the undisputed world champion at super middleweight, is looking to make a tremendous jump to the cruiserweight division for a crack at WBC champion Ilunga Makabu.
But, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum could see that fight falling out - because Makabu is first obligated to make a mandatory defense against Thabisu Mchunu in January.
Canelo has already captured gold at 175-pounds. He moved up to light heavyweight in 2019, when he scored a knockout of Sergey Kovalev for the WBO title - but then he vacated the belt and dropped down to 168.
According to Arum, the Mexican star has expressed interest in facing Beterbiev in 2022.
DuBoef would like to see Beterbiev secure an opportunity with Canelo, but right now Browne is the first item on the agenda.
"Beterbiev is the opposite of Vasiliy Lomachenko stylistically," said DuBoef to Sky Sports.
"He is a force of nature. You can see his grit and his stoic behavior. He does incredible strength exercises. Beterbiev is an absolute beast. He will hunt you down, take what you've got, and take your head off! He is as exciting as anyone. Everybody wants to watch him in the ring. The biggest thing for him is: what's next? Does he get a shot at Canelo? What are his opportunities?"
