Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut - Former WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (32-4, 18KOs) was only in the second fight of his comeback and he suffered as huge setback, dropping a ten round split decision to Tommy Karpency (23-4-1, 14KOs), who picks up the biggest win of his young career. The scores were 96-94 for Dawson, and two cards of 96-94 for Karpency. Dawson was in much better shape than his last outing in June, where was several pounds overweight at the weighin and then put on 20-pounds when he came in on fight night.

Dawson boxed and countered well in the first round. Karpency was growing in confidence in the second and tried taking some chances. He was often countered but landed a big right hand in the third and continued to come forward. Karpency's left hand was landing often in the fourth. Dawson was pressing forward in the fifth and getting time by Karpency's counters. They were battling with jabs and the action was close.

The sixth round was a coin toss round and the seventh was more of the same. During the seventh, Dawson may have injured his left hand. Dawson was controlling the eight, as Karpency got lazy but in the final twenty seconds Karpency unloaded with several punches to steal it. The ninth was close with Dawson appearing to nick it out. The tenth was also close and for whatever reason Dawson coasted in the final seconds.

Light heavyweight prospect Earl Newman (1-0, 1KO) made his pro debut with a second round stoppage of Quintell Thompson (0-3).
