They waited nearly two years and traded harsh words for over five years, but the fight has finally concluded with Game of Thrones star Hafthor “Thor” Bjornsson (AKA The Mountain) securing a six round unanimous decision over bitter rival Eddie Hall on Saturday night at the Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Dubai, UAE.
Their bout was billed as ‘The Heaviest Boxing Match in History.’ On Thursday, Thor weighed in at 335-pounds, while Hall was 313-pounds.
A boxing match involving Eric “Butterbean” Esch was actually bigger. In March of 2007, Butterbean was 417.5-pounds for his knockout win over Joe Siciliano, who came in at 313.5-pounds.
Thor and Hall for six, three-minute rounds under traditional professional boxing rules.
Hall came out firing in the early rounds and appeared to drop Thor in the second - with the knockdown seemingly ruled off by the referee as being the result of a push.
By the third, Thor had regained control - with Hall cut around both eyes. At the end of the third, Thor connected with heavy shots to drop Hall.
Hall recovered and was trying to his best to change the story of the fight, but he was too focused on head hunting and landing one big shot. Thor - who had several interim-fights - was the better boxer and scored another knockdown in the sixth and final round.
After the smoke finally cleared, all three of the official judges scored the bout 57-54 in favor of Thor.
