Tevin Farmer had been a lightweight before, so it wasn’t too much of a jump for him to move from 130 to 135 for a bout against Ivan Redkach.

Farmer clowned Redkach, out-boxing him en route to a wide unanimous decision on “Showtime Extreme” on the preliminary undercard to Leo Santa Cruz vs. Carl Frampton. But Farmer isn’t planning on sticking around in that division.

“I want a world title. I’m going to go back to 130 pounds, and I feel like I’m ready for a title shot,” Farmer said afterward, according to quotes provided to the media by the show’s publicists. “If I have to fight an eliminator, I will. I won’t back down from any challenge.”

Barring a titleholder picking Farmer for a voluntary defense — always a possibility — Farmer will have to work his way into contention. The WBC has him ranked No. 13 at 130; the IBF has him at No. 14; and the WBO has him at No. 15. The WBA doesn’t have him ranked. It remains to be seen whether his rankings at junior lightweight will be influenced by how he performed at lightweight.

Farmer is on a good run. After losing four of his first 12 pro fights — the last to Jose Pedraza in 2012 — Farmer has won 15 in a row. The Philadelphia resident celebrated his 26th birthday on Saturday with a victory. He is now 22-4-1 with 5 KOs.
