Experienced boxing referee Eddie Cotton has warned he won't stand for any nonsense in the world heavyweight title fight between quadruple champion Wladimir Klitschko and Australian challenger Alex Leapai in Germany, Saturday.

However, he stopped short of making specific reference to, or making any guarantees, about preventing Klitschko's tendency to hold onto his opponent, the major pre-fight concern of the Leapai camp.

Nonetheless, Leapai's trainer Noel Thornberry was satisfied with Cotton's statements.

"He just said he isn't going to stand for any nonsense and he said he won't be consulting anybody," Thornberry said.

"He's always been a really really straightforward dominant referee so it's what we need.

"I'm glad he's here. He's a big man himself, he's six foot five.

"He just said he won't be consulting anybody about cuts or he won't be second guessed by anybody and he won't cop any nonsense."

Thornberry was adamant the sore shoulder Leapai was nursing earlier in the week wouldn't be an issue in the fight.

"The shoulder is not a consideration at this point in time, it just needed a little bit of a rub," Thornberry said.
