Pedro Diaz, the trainer of former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30KOs), is proud of his boxer's performance last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Cotto lost his WBA 154-pound title when the official judges awarded a twelve round unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26KOs). 

Both Cotto and Diaz are furious with the wide scores by local Las Vegas judges. The official cards read 117-111, 117-111 and 118-110. In protest of the scores, Cotto denied HBO a post-fight interview and he no-showed the post-fight press conference.

"Miguel proved that he's a great champion and that he's not finished as many thought. He demonstrated that Mayweather is not invincible, but to win at [Mayweather's] home, you need to do so by knockout," Diaz told Carlos Gonzalez. "Miguel displayed that he's a great competitor, who does not tire as many thought and he can achieve many more victories."

Trainer Jose Bonilla, who worked the corner of Carlos Quintana in an earlier fight on the undercard, was shocked with the scores.

"A judge had the bout 118-110, giving only two rounds to Cotto. I honestly do not know what fight he was watching. I saw a closer fight," Bonilla said.
