The Gary Sykes 26-3 (5) v Jon Kays 18-3-1 (4) clash for the vacant British super-featherweight title on May 24 in Dewsbury, Yorkshire has been given an added incentive.

Steve Wood of VIP Boxing, who manages both fighters, said on Twitter earlier tonight that the winner of their bout will face the Commonwealth champion, Liam Walsh 15-0 (10) in their first title defence on the undercard of the Tyson Fury-Dereck Chisora rematch on Jul 26 in Manchester.

Walsh, who hasn’t fought since last September, had been due to meet Sykes on Feb 22 but had to withdraw with an injury meaning that their much anticipated clash had to be postponed.

The Fury-Chisora 2 bill is shaping up to be one of the best British cards of 2014. Already confirmed with the main event is British and Commonwealth middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders making his bid to win the European crown by taking on the unbeaten Italian Emanuele Blandamura. Liam Smith will be making the second defence of his British light middleweight title against mandatory challenger Navid Mansouri and Derry Mathews is thought to be making the first defence of his British lightweight title against Terry Flanagan, which he won from Martin Gethin on Saturday night in Liverpool.
