Robert Stieglitz, the former super middleweight world champion of the World Boxing Organization, defended the EBU light heavyweight title and retained it with a twelve round draw with Serbian Nikola Sjekloca in the main event of a card which took place at the Leipzig Arena in Leipzig, Sachsen, Germany.
The decision of the official judges were 115-113 Stieglitz, 114-113 for Sjekloca and the equalizer 114-114.
The draw verdict did not please the fans, who booed the announced ruling. With this result, Stieglitz left his record at 50-5-2, 29 KOs, while Sjekloca left his record at 32-4-1, 11 KOs.
Stieglitz saw his three fight win streak come to an end,a nd Sjekloca saw his four fight win streak come to a halt.
On the undercard, world ranked light heavyweight Dominic Böesel (24-0, 9 KO's) scored a six round knockout over Sami Enbom (14-1, 7 KO's).
And in a mild heavyweight upset, the Polish giant Mariusz Wach (33-2, 17 KO's) won a twelve round unanimous decision over former European champion Erkan Teper (16-2, 10 KOs). Wach won with scores of 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113.
Teper's career is now on the ropes after losing two in a row - both defeats where he was favored to win. He returned last July after a suspension for using illegal steroids and knocked out Derric Rossy. He came back in October and lost a twelve round split decision to Christian Hammer.
Wach has now won two in row since suffering a stoppage loss to Alexander Povetkin in November of 2015 in Russia. Wach came back last May to win a unanimous decision in Poland over division journeyman Marcelo Nascimento.
