krikya360.com was recently on hand to watch unbeaten lightweight William "Baby Face" Silva (23-0) train for his upcoming HBO televised clash against Felix "Diamante" Verdejo (19-0). The fight takes place at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York in chief support of the Terence Crawford-Hank Lundy main event.
While Verdejo is looked at as a future star in the sport and the next great star from his native Puerto Rico, Silva said that he has the same intentions and that he will be the one becoming a star.
"I am working hard with a great team. I have had great sparring which has prepared me well for the fight. I know that Verdejo and others think he is the future of boxing but I am working hard as well to be the future of boxing. That is what I have worked for since I was a little kid," Silva explained.
Verdejo is a sizable favorite leading into the fight but Silva said he isn't bothered by the odds. He believes a lot of people aren't giving him much of a chance because he has been off the radar and they haven't seen him fight. Silva last fought in December in Puerto Rico on the undercard of Verdejo's last fight.
The Brazilian said that he is sure Verdejo is taking the fight very seriously.
"I think that Verdejo knows what type of fighter I am and I know he is not underestimating me. I think his team might be underestimating but Verdejo knows that we are both undefeated fighters and when we get in the ring it is just him and I and we both have the opportunity to win the fight," said Silva.
As for a prediction, Silva simply said that the best man will win.
"On Saturday you will see a great fight fought by two well prepared fighters. The better fighter will come out victorious and that will be me," Silva told krikya360.com.
