LES Sherrington (33-6, 19KOs) capped a good day for Toowoomba-trained boxers last night with a dominating win in his WBC Asian Boxing Council middleweight title bout on the Gold Coast.
Sherrington claimed the vacant championship belt with a points victory over emerging Japan southpaw Shigetaka Yonezawa (7-8-2) in their 12-round clash at Southport Sharks.
The 31-year-old's latest title win in his sixth successive victory since teaming with Toowoomba trainer-promoter Brendon Smith early last year.
Toowoomba cruiserweight Josh Webb also continued on his winning way last night with success in Perth.
Webb made it five straight wins for trainer Brandon Wood with a stoppage win over West Australian David Letizia.
Letizia retired after four rounds of their six-round match.
Webb's win followed his victory over Lyndon Edney last month for the vacant Victoria State light heavyweight title.
