Shannon Briggs will get a shot at a portion of the world heavyweight title later this year.
The 45-year-old two-time heavyweight champion confirmed the fight against Fres Oquendo, for the vacant WBA ‘regular’ belt, on social media on Thursday.
Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs) was last in action in May 2016 and has been chasing a fight with David Haye for some time.
But after that fight failed to materialise for one reason or another, he was positioned by the WBA in the rankings to fight Oquendo (37-8, 24 KOs).
The fight was set to go to purse bids, with a minimum bid of $1million, but the fight was agreed during the negotiation period.
And now Briggs has revealed that the clash will take place on June 3 in the US.
Boxing Scene understands the fight, which was arranged after plans for a fight with Lucas Browne broke down, will likely to be held in Hard Rock Hollywood in Florida.
Further details will be revealed in due course.
