Promoter Ben Shalom of Boxxer believes a welterweight scrap between Amir Khan and Florian Marku is a fight that makes sense for both parties.
Back in February, Khan returned to the ring for the first time since July of 2019 - and he was stopped in six rounds by domestic rival Kell Brook in a one-sided contest.
There is a rematch clause that Khan is capable of exercising - and the Bolton boxer is apparently very interested in getting another fight with Brook.
But, Shalom would like to see him take an interim-fight to prove that he's serious about gaining revenge on Brook and not just chasing another payday.
Marku returned last Saturday night in Newcastle, with a stoppage win over veteran Chris Jenkins.
After that fight, Marku called for a showdown with Khan.
Shalom will attempt to make that fight.
"We're going to do a big event with [Marku] in Albania, we promised him that. He wants to do his homecoming. Look, Amir Khan makes sense. I genuinely think it makes sense for Amir, I think it makes sense for them both," Shalom told IFL TV.
Former two division champion Carl Frampton, who at 35-years-old is the same age as Khan, retired from the sport last year after getting stopped by Jamel Herring,
He would like to see Khan do the same.
“It has been an incredible career, but he is considering fighting on and to me, it just seems like greed almost as he must have plenty in the bank," Frampton told The Belfast Telegraph.
"After the performance he produced against Kell Brook and to want to fight him again, I think his family and those closest to him need to sit him down and tell him to wise up. I’ve mentioned before the old line from Joe Bugner who said: ‘What’s the point in having money if you can’t count it.’”
