Super bantamweight rivals Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg will return on July 18th - but it won't be against each other. Quigg defends his WBA 'regular' belt against former champion Kiko Martinez in Manchester, while Frampton makes his American debut against in a voluntary defense of his IBF title against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. in El Paso, Texas.
There was some discussions in making a Frampton-Quigg showdown happen. It's one of the biggest fights to be made in the UK. Both sides lay the blame on each other for their discussions falling apart.
Quigg (30-0-2, 22KOs) believes there is only person who is preventing the fight from taking place - Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan.
But Frampton (20-0, 14KOs) was also not pleased with Quigg's offer of a 60-40 monetary split - with the loser of their match getting the 40%
"Barry McGuigan, that's it," Quigg told Toe 2 Toe. "The only thing that is stopping this fight is Barry McGuigan. I believe Frampton wants the fight. I believe he thinks he can beat me, I believe 100 percent I will beat him, so the only sticking point is Barry McGuigan."
"It's 60-40 for the winner, so it's there if they want but the only reason it's not happening is Barry McGuigan and his ego. He's got to remember it's not his career, it's Frampton's career, so Frampton's got to start calling a few shots."
