Ryan Martin eyes a fresh start to revive his career.
krikya360.com has learned that the former amateur standout and one-time top prospect—aptly nicknamed ‘Blue Chip’—has signed a co-management pack with First to Fight Management and Sheer Sports Management. Martin recently signed with the pair of Los Angeles based outfits, though with his training camp to take place in Midwestern U.S. under the watchful eye of noted cornerman Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre.
“We are excited to be working with Ryan,” Jerry Cazares, CEO of First To Fight Management told krikya360.com upon signing the eight-year pro.
Martin (24-2, 14KOs) has not fought since a twelve-round points loss to former lightweight titlist Robert Easter Jr. this past February in Uncasville, Connecticut. The setback snapped a modest two-fight win streak enjoyed following his first career defeat, a seventh-round stoppage to eventual world junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor in November 2018.
Prior to turning pro in 2013, Martin—born in Akron and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee—enjoyed a stellar amateur career, amassing a record of 202-22 and claiming multiple national titles. The success has yet to translate into the type of success expected of his pro career, though the full training and management overhaul at the very least provides a reset for the 28-year-old who is surrounded by championship talent.
Among his new training stablemates are three-division champ and pound-for-pound entrant Terence Crawford (37-0, 28KOs) and reigning WBO junior lightweight titlist Jamel Herring (23-2, 11KOs), the latter whom is also managed by Cazares’ First To Fight Management.
“With the right management behind him and now being trained by Brian BoMac and his team, I think it’s a matter of time before he becomes a world champion,” Cazares believes.
Martin is expected to return to the ring in December.
