Reginaldo Kuchle, the promoter for Marco Antonio Rubio, believes Sergio Martinez may have overreacted to being unable to secure a fight with WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Martinez vacated the WBC's Diamond title and walked away from the sanctioning body after they failed to push through an ordered fight with Chavez. The WBC, at their 49th annual convention, ordered Chavez to fight Martinez, but then allowed the Mexican champion to Rubio on February 4th. Martinez also had angry words for HBO, because the network was supporting Chavez's fight with Rubio.

Kuchle recalls how the WBC, at their 48th annual convention in 2010, ordered a final elminator between Rubio and David Lemieux. Rubio stopped Lemieux last April to gain the WBC's number one ranking at 160-pounds. Around that time period, the WBC made Martinez the Diamond champion and attempted to push him to a shot before Rubio.

"Whoever gets angry loses, everyone knows that. At the convention held by WBC in Cancun (in 2010), they agreed that Marco Antonio was going to fight in a final eliminator and he did, won the following year (April 2011). Now we see that Julio says that he is giving the opportunity to Rubio. Don't be confused, the opportunity was earned. Martinez should reconsider his position and should not get angry just like that. Sometimes it is better to be patient, because everything falls in place in due course. He does not have to fight with the broadcaster HBO, who put up a lot of money for events like this. When Rubio wins, I'm sure Martinez will get his chance," Kuchle said.
