Already training hard with Robert Garcia in Oxnard, California, WBC interim-middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) looks forward to what he views as the most important fight of his career, on October 18th, when he faces WBA/IBO champion Genaddy Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Most fighters have rejected the opportunity to face Golovkin, but Rubio embraces the dangerous task. Rubio was trying to secure a fight with full WBC champion Miguel Cotto. Those discussions were going nowhere and he saw Golovkin as the next best opportunity.

"What good is being a champion if I'm not going to fight the best. Even before I was a champion, I faced the best fighters in the division. Now that I am [a champion], it's all the more reason I should fight [the best] and not shun anyone. We are motivated to face Golovkin," said Rubio.

"I'm a fighter who likes challenges. And it's not enough to just say that, you have to prove it, so I took this fight. I am very happy to face a great world champion; it is the biggest challenge that I've accepted in my career, and I plan to fight Golovkin in a true Mexican style."
