Steve Mestas and Airtight Boxing present, ‘No Mercy 2’, from the Golden Gloves Gym in Denver, CO. On January 30th, Johnny Rodriguez and Juan Santiago will meet for a second time.
In September, Rodriguez and Santiago battled in what quite possibly, could be one of the best fights seen in Colorado over the past several years. Outside of Manny Perez vs Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado vs Ruslan Provodnikov, Rodriguez-Santiago provided all the same fireworks but on a smaller stage. Now the two warriors will look to recreate the action from their first encounter.
Santiago (15-15-2, 9 KO’s) has made a name for himself throughout Colorado for his non stop, face first style. In 2013, he went toe to toe with former world champion Juan Diaz for 10 rounds. Santiago showed every ounce of the warrior he is as Diaz threw everything he had in trying to stop Santiago. Santiago lost the fight but gained the respect of every fan in the crowd.
Rodriguez (6-1, 4 KO’s), is a straight killer in the ring. His knockouts over Carrillo and Reyes were devastating. In his only defeat, against Jeremy Ramos (9-2, 4 KO’s), Rodriguez made the ill advised move of going up in weight to challenge Ramos. In his first fight with Santiago, Rodriguez proved he could not only slug it out, but he could box and win a war of nutrition.
The first fight ended in a split decision victory for Rodriguez, telling you exactly how close and competitive the fight was.
These two warriors will pick up right where they left off, can you say round 8!
Santiago will look to even the score on January 30th.
In the Co-main event, Brad Jackson will battle David Lee Marquez in the Jr. Middleweight division.
Jackson (16-10-1, 7 KO’s) has been a fixture on the Colorado scene for over 9 years. Delighting fans with numerous slugfest type fights. Marquez (5-8-1, 1 KO) is returning after a 5-year layoff. He comes to us from the fighting Marquez family that includes Stevie, Ernie and Andrew.
Jackson-Marquez is a rematch from 2009, a match in which Marquez won by split decision.
Under card action will include Tana Gallegos (4-9, 2 KO’s) will face debuter, Patricia Juarez. Yes Juarez is related to ‘that’ Juarez, ‘La Barbie’ Mariana Juarez. Others who could see action include Stevie Marquez (11-17-2, 7 KO’s), Armando Vera (2-0, 1 KO), Hilario Medina (2-9) and the professional debut of Art Melo, who trains with Charlie ‘Hustle’ Ibarra at Hustle Hard Boxing and Striking.
Tickets will be on sale later this week. The show will be held at the Golden Gloves Gym located at 6161 W. 44th Avenue. The first bell is set to go at 7pm with doors opening at 6. For more information call Steve Mestas at 720-298-1954.
