O'Shaquie Foster and Robson Conceicao both came in under the junior lightweight limit at the Friday weigh-in for their Saturday title fight at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York (5:50 p.m. ET), despite each carrying a considerable chip on his shoulder.
Conceicao, the belt holder, weighed in at 129.7lbs, while Foster came in a couple ticks higher at 129.9.
Saturday’s rematch is meant to put to bed the controversy surrounding the fighters’ first matchup, in July, when Conceicao – a 36-year-old veteran contender who, in his fourth try, became a world titleholder by snatching Foster’s belt in a split decision victory.
Meanwhile, Foster, 31, who bested Rey Vargas in February last year to earn a vacant title and followed with two successful defenses before (puzzlingly) being outpointed on the judges’ scorecards against Conceicao, is eager to demonstrate why he deserved the nod in the fight all along.
