It's impossible these days to get through a night of boxing without a glaring officiating error.

On Saturday, it was Benjy Esteves Jr. who committed the egregious mistake.

Lucas Matthysse dropped Roberto Ortiz with a crushing body shot in Round 2. Ortiz listened to Esteves' count on one knee, visibly in good healthy the entire time as he tried to gain precious seconds to recover, then bounced up at the count of nine. However, Esteves inexplicably counted him out, even though Ortiz beat the count.

Ortiz was understandably frustrated, though he didn't protest the ruling immediately.

"I thought I was up by nine," Ortiz told Showtime's Jim Gray following the bout. "He definitely hit me with a good shot, but I was up at nine."

"I could have gotten up at seven. I was just milking the time to recover. I was ready for this fight."

Unfortunately, Ortiz never got a chance to compete and suffered his first pro defeat. Esteves refused to speak to Showtime after the matchup.
