It was a fun night at Ho-Chunk Gaming in Wittenberg, WI at a card promoted by former boxer Jonathan “JJ” Corn. The matches certainly could have been better with only one of the 6 bouts competitive at all but the relatively small crowd enjoyed what they got to see.
In the first bout, a cruiserweight affair scheduled for 4 rounds, Lucas St. Claire stopped Travis McCullough at 2:10 of round 2 in a lopsided affair. The next fight was even more one-sided as Welterweight Ira Frank whacked out inept Alonzo Scott in 1:33 of the first round. To his credit, Scott came out winging wild shots and kept it up until the first counter that Frank threw dropped him to the canvas. Scott beat the count but it was all downhill from there and over quickly afterwards.
Daniel “DJ” Denny a popular Jr. Middleweight from Oneida, WI made short work of Starr Roberts who managed to last until 2:57 of round 2. The co-main event was the only competitive bout of the evening when Oni Webster of Green Bay won the first round before going into defensive mode for the remainder of the bout and was content to try to not get hit and occasionally throw a counter at Michael “Zhow” Thunder who clearly won rounds 2-4. Incredibly, one judge had Webster winning this Super middleweight bout, apparently on the strength of catching repeated punches to his face for 3 rounds. Fortunately, the other two judges actually watched the fight and the correct verdict was reached.
The main event featured Rob “Red Hot” Frankel in a very rare (for him) “gimme” fight where the outcome was never in doubt. Hapless David “All Day” Laque did best in round 1 when Frankel started out slow to feel him out and see what was in front of him. Quickly figuring out that the answer was “not much” Rob was landing at will by the last minute of the first round and continued to do so until Laque’s corner, no braver than David, waved the towel in surrender in a little under 2 minutes of the 3rd round. Apparently, “All Day” refers to how long David will drive to a venue to absorb punches…
