Lamont Roach (19-0-1) is understandably excited to be facing Jamel Herring (20-2) on November 9th in Fresno.  The fight will headline a Top Rank card that will stream on ESPN+.

This will be the 24-year-old Roach's first title shot.  Herring will be defending his WBO 130 pound title for the first time.  He captured the belt in May when he outpointed Masayuki Ito in Florida.

“It feels great. It’s been set in ever since I got the call. We just had trouble picking the location and now we have a location I am super super excited to take this belt from Jamel Herring,” Roach recently told krikya360.com.

The Washington, DC native said that he has zero issues in facing Herring - who is a New York native - in California.

The date was picked for Herring's defense because it is Veteran's Day weekend and while Herring is a Marine veteran, Roach says that the day has a special meaning for him as well.

“It’s a neutral location. I got love out in the west coast especially in California. So it’s not a bad move for me. I am honored to fight on Veterans’ Day weekend as well because my trainer who passed away who was also my cousin was an old Army champ who served time in the Army,” Roach explained.

Roach has a lot of respect for Herring but believes that he is the superior fighter and that it will be very evident when they meet in the ring.   He said that they are just counting down the days until he becomes a world champion for the first time in his young career.

“He’s a tough and crafty fighter. He deserves to be a champion as he won his championship but his time is ticking. On November 9th - I will be champion soon,” Roach stated.
