According to the Scottish Daily Record, WBA junior welterweight champion Ricky Burns has a lot at stake in his upcoming mandatory defense against Kiryl Relikh in Glasgow. The fight is scheduled for October 7th.

The paper reports that Burns - should he win - has been promised a seven-figure showdown with former four division world champion Adrien Broner in Las Vegas.

Burns made history this year, when he knocked out Michele Di Rocco to become the first fighter from Scotland to win world titles in three different divisions. He had previously won world titles at featherweight and super featherweight.

Beating Relikh won't be easy. The challenger is undefeated and knocked out 19 of his 21 opponents.

Broner has been inactive since a ninth-round stoppage win over Burns' countryman Ashley Theophane in April. The boxer recently finished up a 30 day prison stint for contempt of court.

The fight with Theophane was originally a defense of the WBA championship. Broner was unable to make the 140-pound limit and lost his title on the scale. Burns then captured that vacant title.

Burns and Broner were at one time in line to fight each other at super featherweight several years ago. Burns' manager Alex Morrison rejected the fight, stating that he wasn't happy with the financial terms.

If Burns does come out victorious in October, the weight limit for a fight with Broner would be a mystery. After failing to make weight for Theophane, Broner said he was moving back to the welterweight limit of 147-pounds. Broner has fought at the welterweight limit in 2013 and captured a world title, but moved down to 140 after suffering his first career defeat at the hands of Marcos Maidana.
