Former two division world champion Ricardo Mayorga has always had the stamp of controversy on his forehead.
As krikya360.com reported a few weeks ago, Mayorga is scheduled to fight again on April 6th in Guatemala - against the country's amateur superstar Lester Martinez, who is making his pro debut against the former champion.
Mayorga has promised to end the debut of the young boxer in the first round.
But now there is some concern from Mayorga's camp, after the boxer no-showed several training sessions.
On Friday, his coach and friend, Luis León, was waiting for him at 2:00 PM, but Mayorga never showed.
"What reassures me is that Mayorga is not fat, but is close to the weight (170 pounds). However, this has been the case throughout his career, he's very careless but talented and in the end he gives himself to the maximum," said his coach last Friday to German Garcia.
Also, this Monday Mayorga was expected to arrive to the gym at the same time and once again he did not show up.
"The fight is still in play," said Marcelo Sanchez, who made the deal for Mayorga's fight.
"There is still time to complete his preparation. I plan to take him two weeks before the scheduled date to Guatemala to make the final adjustments there."
The other side of the coin is Lester Martínez.
The crown jewel of Guatemala has been training with Cuban coach Julio González of the Federation of Guatemala.
But now the young fighter is already in the hands of the renowned Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristáin of Mexico.
"My confidence and self-esteem are up when I know I'm training with a boxing legend. I have the feeling that I will be prepared with great quality and that will help me get the best out of me on April 6, "said Martinez for Prensa Libre.
