The World Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association (WBA) have ordered the start of negotiations between Rau'Shee Warren (13-1, 4KO) - the super champion at bantamweight - and British boxer Jamie McDonnell (28-2-1, 13KO), who holds the "regular championship" of the division.

Two weeks ago, Warren got revenge when he captured the WBA title after beating Juan Carlos Payano of the Dominican Republic by majority decision in a Premier Boxing Champions televised rematch.

The rematch was allowed by the sanctioning body on the basis of the winner making an immediate defense against McDonnell.

The European boxer has held the WBA 'regular' bantamweight belt since 2014, when he beat Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawaty of Thailand and has defended the belt four times. Two of those defense were very close victories over Japanese boxer Tomoki Kameda and another defense was a spectacular brawl against Fernando Vargas whom was knocked out in nine rounds.

The teams behind Warren and McDonnell have 30 days to negotiate and if they fail to reach an agreement then a purse bid will be ordered. The WBA's World Championships Committee has notified both parties of this resolution.

Warren vs. McDonnell is part of the WBA's decision, first discussed at the start of the year, to cut down the volume of WBA titleholders in each division and avoid the confusion over which fighter is the actual WBA champion in each individual weight class.
