Scott Quigg will meet Yoandris Salinas for the vacant WBA World super bantamweight title later this year in Britain.
Terms have been agreed between Matchroom Sport and Golden Boy Promotions and a date and venue will be confirmed shortly.
The unbeaten Interim champion returned to action in style in Bolton last month with a third round stoppage over William Prado to record his 26th win and 19th inside the distance. The 24 year old will focus his summer efforts on the Cuban known as ‘El Nino’, and believes he is ready to secure his first World title.
“It’s great news that this fight has been made and will be in England,” said Quigg. “I was thrilled to get back into the ring in Bolton. It had been a frustrating wait but now I’ve got the ring rust off and we’ve this World title shot, it’s all been worth it. I’ll be working hard over the summer to get ready for the clash, Salinas is a classy operator but I will be 100 percent ready to take that title.”
Quigg’s new promoter Eddie Hearn is delighted to have secured the shot for Quigg, and believes the Bury star will come out on top in an exciting encounter.
“I'm over the moon that we have been able to get this done, Scott is ready to go win this World title,” said Hearn. “Salinas is a quality fighter but we have every confidence that Scott will get the job done on a special night for British boxing.”
