Pierce O’Leary appeared to be well on his way to extending his current knockout streak.

An opening round knockdown created the false sense of another early night for the unbeaten Dubliner. Instead, Namibia’s Emmanuel Mungandjela showed resilience in overcoming that knockdown as well as another late in round five to last the full ten rounds, though dropping a landslide decision in their regional junior welterweight title fight.

Scores of 99-90, 99-89 and 96-92 all landed in favor of O’Leary in their BT Sport/ESPN+ aired bout Saturday at The O2 in London.

O’Leary dodged a wild uppercut by Mungandjela to land a straight right hand in round one. Mungandjela managed to beat the count and settled down to avoid walking into similar fight-ending blows.

Action remained one way, though with Mungandjela (16-4-1, 7KOs) showing plenty of heart and resolve. O’Leary—who’d stopped his previous four opponent—managed to break the dam, flooring Mungandjela late in round five, though the visiting Namibian once again managed to beat the count.

Mungandjela was on wobbly legs at the start of round six but managed to remain upright for the balance of the fight. It wasn’t from a lack of effort on the part of O’Leary, who continued to land right hands at will but none of which could prevent the fight from going to the scorecards.

The good news for the 22-year-old was that enough work was put in during his first ten-round fight to where the outcome was never in doubt. O’Leary advanced to 11-0 (6KOs) in claiming his first points win since last February.

The opening bout of the telecast saw 6’7” heavyweight rookie Tommy Fletcher (3-0, 3KOs) flatten Croatia’s Jiri Krejcki inside of one round. A single uppercut left Krejcki (1-3-2, 0KOs) down and out, with the fight halted on the spot at 2:19 of round one and with ringside medical staff immediately tending to the fallen Croatian.

Headlining the show, Zach Parker (22-0, 16KOs) and John Ryder (31-5, 17KOs) meet in an all-British super middleweight matchup with the division’s vacant interim WBO title at stake.
