Deontay Wilder has big plans ahead and they don’t include Cuban banger Luis Ortiz, against whom Wilder defends his WBC heavyweight title Saturday night, with Showtime carrying the card. Photos by Ryan Hafey, Amanda Wescott & Ed Diller.

Wilder’s last defense was a joke. Ortiz dropped out of the bout when he tested positive for performance enhancers, and Bermane Stiverne stepped in. That lasted less than a round. Wilder weighed in at a very low 214-pounds, while Ortiz was a shade over 241-pounds.

Wilder is looking at a unification with WBO, IBO, WBA, IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua — as soon as possible. That’s not necessarily a wise move, looking beyond an opponent. Wilder shrugs and lets out a hefty laugh.
