‘The Swedish Princess’ Klara Svensson (14-0, 5 KOs) defends her interim WBC Female World Light Welterweight title against Lucia Morelli (18-4, 8 KOs) on Saturday night at the Falconer Hall at the Radisson Blu in Copenhagen. Today, both fighters met with the press at a media workout in Svensson’s hometown, Malmo.

“You can tell by looking at Lucia that she has come to win,’’ said Svensson. ‘’She knows that I own an important belt, but I’m not going to let her get her hands on it. I feel that I’m the better boxer and I will be the toughest fighter she has ever faced.

“I’ve had some good sparring and I’ve got a very good game plan, but I’m not going to reveal it now. You will have to wait and see on Saturday.

“I’ve had a great year and want to take another step up. It’s one thing to win a title but another to defend it. I have big plans for next year and Morelli is not going to stand in my way!’’

“I have a lot of respect for Klara as a boxer and a human being,’’ said the Italian challenger Morelli. ‘’But I have fought and beaten better opponents than her in my career.

”I have prepared very well for this fight. This is a really big chance for me. Klara’s belt is the key to bigger fights in the future. I didn’t come here to lose, I came to seize an opportunity that could boost my career.”

Today’s media workout took place at the Malmo Boxing Centre, just metres away from the Swedbank Stadion, where tonight Malmo FF host Juventus in the UEFA Champions League. It will be Sweden against Italy for the first time this week, and both Svensson and Morelli are backing their local teams.

“I played football myself for seven years, and I’m really excited about Malmo’s success in both Swedish and international football,’’ said Svensson. ‘’I really hope the guys beat Juventus tonight. Whatever the result, I promise that I will follow it up with a win on Saturday.”

“We met so many Juventus fans on the plane on our way to Copenhagen,’’ said Morelli. ‘’It really is Italy against Sweden this week, and it will be 2-0 for Italy. First Juventus will beat Malmo and then I will take care of Klara on Saturday.”

Swedish heavyweight hope Otto Wallin (7-0, 5 KOs) was also in attendance. The 24 year-old showcased his skills ahead of an eight-round contest with Croatian Vjekoslav Bajic (8-7, 2 KOs).

“People should expect to see the best version of me in the ring on Saturday night,’’ said Wallin. ‘’I’ve improved a lot this year and I’m looking forward to showing everybody the results. Me and my coach Joey Gamache have studied Bajic, and Joey has laid out a perfect plan. If I stick to that, I’ll win the fight for sure.”
