MAYAGÜEZ, P.R.- Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment along with Roc Nation Sports, presents “Boxeo Al Máximo” on Saturday April 4, their first boxing show in city of Mayagüez. This great event will take place at the renewed “Palacio de los Deportes” and will headline a eight round fight with the promising prospect José 'Chiquiro' Martinez (13-0, 9 KOs) against veteran warrior Juan 'Cowi' Herrera (10-8, 4) for the vacant WBC's Latino championship in the super flyweight division.
Born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico but rise up in the mountains of Las Marias ‘Chiquiro’ Martinez is ready for the big challenge that Herrera represents.
"The work is already done in the gym, I had a great camp and I'm ready for Saturday and excited to fight in my hometown. This will be a great fight, but I will be the one that will rise the hand with the victory”, said undefeated Jose 'Chiquiro' Martinez.
Meanwhile the tough Juan 'Cowi Herrera declared to be in great shape for his anticipated fight against Martinez, "We know Martinez’s style, he moves forward and likes to counter, he fits perfectly with my style and it will be a great fight, we are ready for him the fans will enjoy the fight”, concluded 'Cowi' Herrera.
“Boxeo Al Máximo” for the first time at the “Palacio De Los Deportes”, and the ring side tickets has been already sold out leaving only general admission tickets. "We are very pleased to announce that the event is almost sold out, undoubtedly fans from the west side of Puerto Rico supports their boxers. The bout Chiquiro Martinez vs. Cowi Herrera is a hot fight the fans are excited”, said Vice President and Promoter, Hector H. Soto.
In co-main event, super bantamweight Freddy Ortiz (4-0, 4 KOs) will be making his first six round fight and will be tested with Jovany Fuentes (5-6, 4 KOs). “I’ve seen and have been studing several of his fights,” said Ortiz, a former national amateur champion. “I know Jovany has many more fights than me, but I like fighting people with more fights and experience then me”, he added: “You have to fight the best”, Ortiz said. Meanwhile, Jantony Ortiz (3-0, 2 KOs), a 2012 Puerto Rican Olympic Team Member, will be tested in four rounds bout with Jaxel Marrero.
Another attractive meeting is with heavyweight and professional wrestler Carlos 'Chicano' Cotto (7-1, 5), resident of Aguas Buenas, who will battle it out in six rounds with Jimmy Suarez (3-5, 3) of Moca. This will be chapter three of an intense personal feud that began in 2013 when Cotto won by disqualification in first round and continued in February when Suarez’s noted a huge victory by knockout in first round after suffering a fall. Interestingly, Cotto also has set for the night of April 4, a star wrestling event in Bayamón. It has been said he will have be exiting the “Palacio de los Deportes” in an awaiting helicopter.
“I will win again, a the fans will see that you don’t belong to the boxing world”, Jimmy Suarez said.
“Theres no excuses about the last fight but this Saturday I am willing to destroy Suarez in front of his crowd”, said Chicano Cotto.
In other bouts local hero and super bantamweight undeafeted prospect Richy Rodríguez (2-0, 2KO’s) will make his third appeareance as pro- fighter against Alberto Velez. Meanwhile, heavyweight “Tantor” Kelvin Nuñez (4-0, 4KO’s), will fight in six rounds with Jesus Gonzalez, and Jr. lightweight Miguel Canino (5-0, 2KO's) of Dorado, collides in four rounds with Mike Erosa of Vega Baja.
