Miami, Florida - Joseph "JoJo" Diaz (31-1, 15 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Tevin Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KOs) to capture the IBF super featherweight world championship. The scores were 116-112, 115-113, 115-113. (photos by Ed Mulholland)
Farmer was doing the better work in the first round. In the second, a bad cut opened up above the left eye of Diaz from a clash of heads. Diaz seemed to edge out the third with the bigger punches.
Diaz was putting his punches together well in the third, fourth and fifth. Farmer was in the fight, but getting tagged more than usual. The sixth was close, with Diaz unloading with the harder shots. Farmer was landing good shots during the seventh as they traded punches in close. Diaz was outlanding Farmer was they were trading at close range in the eight.
Diaz continued to outland and outfight Farmer in the ninth. Not much of a change in the way the fight was going in the tenth. Diaz was landing well during the eleventh, as Farmer seemed to be tired and unable to get off.
They came out digging to the body as the twelfth began. It was close action as they traded punches at close range.
