Vasilly Lomachenko and Luke Campbell both came well within the 135-pound lightweight limit for their three-belt unification bout, which takes place Saturday evening in front of a sold-out crowd at The O2 in London, England.
Ukraine’s Lomachenko (13-1, 10KOs) checked in at 134.5 pounds in his bid to add a third lightweight title. A model of consistency, the pound-for-pound entrant has hit that exact mark for the fourth time in as many lightweight fights since moving up in weight last spring.
England’s Campbell (20-2, 16KOs) weighed 134.25 pounds in his second bid at a major title, the same weight for his 12-round win over Yvan Mendy in their title eliminator last September. The 2012 Olympic Gold medalist came up just short in a Sept. 2017 split decision loss to then-titlist Jorge Linares.
In the evening’s chief support, recent Matchroom Boxing signee Hughie Fury (23-2, 13KOs) collides with Russia’s Alexander Povetkin (34-2, 24KOs) in a terrifically matched heavyweight contest between former world title challengers.
England’s Fury—whose cousin Tyson Fury is an unbeaten—top-rated heavyweight—registered at a fighting ready 224 pounds as he looks to extend his two-fight win streak since a 12-round loss to Kubrat Pulev in their title eliminator last October.
Povetkin weighed 225.7 pounds, slightly heavier than his weight of 222 pounds for his last contest, a 7th round stoppage loss to then-unbeaten and unified titlist Anthony Joshua last September in London, England.
Charlie Edwards attempts the second defense of his flyweight title as he faces Mexico’s Julio Cesar Martinez. Both boxers were under the 112-pound limit for the contest. Edwards (15-1, 6KOs) weighed 111.5 pounds, while Martinez checked in at a trim and fit 110 pounds.
England’s Joshua Buatsi (11-0, 9KOs) returns to the venue which housed both his pro debut as well as his first regional title twin. The 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist and unbeaten light heavyweight weighed 174.6 pounds for his latest O2 appearance, facing Canada’s Ryan Ford (16-4, 11KOs) who tipped the scales at 173.9 pounds.
