Carson, California - In a rematch, for the IBF super flyweight title, Fernando Martinez (15-0, 8 KOs) retained the belt with a twelve round unanimous decision over Jerwin Ancajas (33-3-2, 22 KOs).
The scores were 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110.
Back in February, Martinez captured the title with a dominant twelve round decision over Ancajas.
Martinez was very aggressive, coming forward and pressing the action in the first. Ancajas was using movement and looking to land counters. Ancajas was tagging Martinez with counters in the second and making him get reckless. Martinez picked up the pace and managed to do better in the third.
A brief brawl in the fourth. Martinez was having the edge with landed punches. Ancajas seemed to have the edge in the fifth, with close action. Martinez came out firing and did better in the sixth with some heavy punches landing to the head. They were brawling at the start of the seventh with a lot of leather being thrown. There was a clash of heads that opened up a cut on Ancajas. Martinez was connecting with more offense.
Martinez continued to pound Ancajas to the head and body in the eight. The action slowed a little in the ninth. Both were picking their spots and had moments. Martinez more active and connected with the harder punches in the tenth. Martinez closed stronger with the better offense in the eleventh. Plenty of exchanges in the twelfth, with Martinez having the edge.
