Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KOs) captured the vacant WBC junior welterweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over four-division world champion Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KOs) on Saturday night at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. Junior middleweight James Kirkland (31-1, 27 KOs) won a controversial ten round disqualification over Carlos Molina (19-5-2, 6 KOs). Molina went down in the tenth round as the bell rang. One of Molina’s cornermen briefly entered the ring, which eventually led to the DQ call. Molina was ahead 88-83, 87-84 on two cards, while the third had Kirkland up 86-85.
