Leeds - Ebanie Bridges (8-1, 3 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Maria Cecilia Roman (16-6-1, 0 KOs) to capture the IBF bantamweight title. (photos by Mark Robinson)
The scores were 100-91, 97-93 and 97-93.
Roman, who doesn't have much power, decided to stay in the pocket with Bridges for the first half of the fight. Bridges was outworking Roman in the first half of the fight, but she seemed to be tiring around the sixth.
Roman, sensing that Bridges was slowing down, began to up her workrate in the sixth and was rallying with more activity from that point forward.
In the second half, some of the rounds were very close, as Roman was throwing with both hands, and connecting well, until the final bell - and Bridges, the stronger of the two, was pushing her back at times and throwing a lot, with the shots not having the same sting.
Also on the card, IBO lightweight champion Maxi Hughes won a twelve round unanimous decision over Ryan Walsh, who had no answers for the boxing style of Hughes.
The scores were 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110.
