Mexico - Antonio Margarito of Tijuana and Mexicali's Jorge Paez Jr. came face to face to officially announce their showdown scheduled for March 5, a 10 round junior middleweight clash in the Mexico City Arena. Promociones Zanfer will stage the event and it will be broadcast on Azteca 7, the House of Boxing.
"The Tornado" Margarito and "Maromerito" Paez conducted their conference at the facilities of TV Azteca, and they were joined by promoter Fernando Beltran, president of Zanfer, in addition to former world champion Fernando Montiel, Yucatecan's Miguel Berlchelt and Cesar Juarez.
"I am ready to return after four years. I have no financial problems, I want my kids to see me fight, to know who their father is," said the Tijuana fighter, who said his right eye is healthy after a serious injury in 2011 in the fight against Miguel Cotto.
Margarito (38-8, 27 KO), 37 years old, looks forward to exchanging blows with Paez Jr. (07/02/39, 23 KO), the son of former world champion Jorge Paez.
The Mexicali boxer agreed that he also learned from some painful defeats - "I have learned from those mistakes and now I can get to the to big fights if I beat Margarito, a great champion with a strong punch."
Beltran predicted a great fight, "there is great rivalry between Tijuana and Mexicali. Margarito wants a big return to be in big fights in America and Jorge Paez will try to brighten their career to seek a new title shot after his loss to Jose Benavidez.
"With Margarito we have been with him since he started his career and so far, all we are doing is to provide a platform, hopefully he will give a great fight but it will not be easy."
