Nashville - In a welterweight contest, Abel Ramos (26-3-2, 20 KOs) scored a dramatic stoppage of Bryant Perrella (17-3, 14 KOs) in the closing seconds of the tenth and final round. (photos by Stephanie Trapp)
Coming in, Ramos had won seven in a row since suffering a close majority decision loss to Jamal James in April 2018.
And Perrella had won two in a row since suffering a majority decision loss to Luis Collazo in August 2018.
In most of the first half, Perrella's boxing ability and accurate punching was giving Ramos a lot of trouble. Ramos tried to rally in the fifth, as he closed the gap and began to outworking Perrella, who came right back in the sixth with the better boxing.
Ramos continued to press his point as the second half played out, but it was Perrella's boxing ability and defensive skills that were giving him the edge in the action.
In the closing moments of the final round, Ramos dropped Perrella hard with an uppercut. Perrella made it up and he was dropped again from a straight shot. He once again got up, and was asked to walk - he stumbled for a moment and the fight was waved off with only one second left.
Perrella's team went wild over the stoppage, since their boxer was likely way up on the scorecards.
