During their recent visit to the United States, Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin and his promoter Andrei Ryabinsky of World of Boxing, took time to visit recovering fighter, Magomed Abdusalamov.
Magomed suffered career ending injuries during a brutal ten round decision loss to Mike Perez in November 2013 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Magomed felt ill after the fight and was taken to a local hospital, where a brain bleed was discovered. The heavyweight contender was placed in a medical coma for several weeks.
The neurosurgeon Dr. Rupendra Swarup said, "he will not be the same. He's going to have neurological deficits."
The fighter is still receiving a lot of medical attention and going through rehabilitation to improve his physical and mental condition. There are several lawsuits which were filed in the aftermath of Magomed's fight.
Ryabinksy has assisted the family with their staggering and mounting medical bills.
