Keeping his cool has been incredibly difficult for Conor Benn. At times, he can come across as aloof but even with his pugnacious attitude, he’s done his best to remain calm. When he doesn’t have a fight lined up, it’s relatively easy. However, with the Brit set to take on Peter Dobson this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, Benn is amped up.
“He’s getting f----- up,” Benn told Matchroom Boxing during a recent sit-down. “He’s getting absolutely smashed to pieces. I’ll make you cry in there.”
Dobson, 33, has been waiting for an opportunity like this for years. Thanks to him dominating whoever was placed in front of him, he believes that most welterweights have done their best to avoid him. But, with Benn giving him his first shot on the big stage, he’s ready to prove his naysayers wrong.
So far, the New Yorker has had a ton to say. Benn, in Dobson’s opinion, is solid but great? Or even good? That’s hyperbolic.
Benn isn’t the type to sit back and allow his opponents to throw shade without throwing some back. During the build-up, that’s exactly what the 27-year-old has done. At this stage though, using his words is getting a bit repetitive and flat-out boring.
Benn is currently in the process of making weight. Doing so makes him surly and almost unbearable. Dobson is talking a good game, adding to Benn’s desire to shut his mouth permanently.
When he lays his head at night, the UK star envisions the sort of damage he’ll be dishing out on Saturday night. Once the opening bell rings and he begins tearing his man apart, Dobson will be under the impression that it isn't just fists that he’s being hit with.
“He won’t know what hit him. He’s gonna feel like he’s been hit by a baseball bat.”
