On the televised undercard of the Paul Malignaggi-Adrien Broner world title fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, another world title bout will also be in play with historical significance.

Sakio Bika and Marco Antonio Periban will fight in a scheduled 12 round bout for the vacant WBC super middleweight title. The title was voluntarily vacated by Andre Ward last month.

Periban's manager Rolando Arellano told krikya360.com Wednesday night that Periban wins, it will be the first time a Mexican-born fighter will have won a world title in that weight class.

"It's history in the making," said Arrellano, should Periban be the one who has his hand raised after the fight.

The Cameroon-born Bika (31-5-2, 21 KOs) was the mandatory challenger to Ward and is still ranked number one by the WBC. Periban (20-0, 13 KOs), who hails Mexico City, DF, Mexico, is ranked number three.

Bika won a one-sided 12 round unanimous over Nikola Sjekloca on February 16th, while Periban knocked out Samuel Miller in the second round on March 16th.
