Renowned Cuban trainer Pedro Díaz confided and promised a victory from his student, Alexis "Roamer" Angulo, in his upcoming match this Thursday against undefeated Anthony Sims, in the city of Miami, where he will try to start with a success that he hopes will lead him back to dispute for a world championship.
The Latin super middleweight championship, endorsed by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) will be at stake in this fight. The belt is held by Angulo, a Colombian native.
Díaz, who has taken Angulo's career to international levels and to have a 25-1-0 mark with 22 KOs, expects to topple the prospect handled by Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn.
"We are not thinking about what to do in the event of winning, but what is next for Alexis after Thursday's victory," said former member of the Cuban national amateur team and recognized today as one of the most reliable and successful trainers in the world in the professional level.
In his opinion there is a lot of confidence in the corner of Sims and from some sectors of public opinion, and to that, he replied:
"It is good that it is so, because they are going to take a big surprise with Alexis, because he is a tremendous puncher and he has demonstrated that fact in all the places and countries in which he has boxed," Diaz added.
He highlighted the professionalism of Angulo and specifically his attachment to the gym and discipline, which will allow him to reach the fight with Sims (20-0 18 KOs) in his best shape possible.
If he wins, Angulo will restart the road to the super middleweight world championship, which he already challenged for on June 30, 2018, and lost a twelve round decision to then World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion Gilberto Ramírez.
The fight between Angulo and Sims is part of a card being staged with three world title fights. IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer will face Joseph Diaz, as well as the WBO middleweight champion Demetrious Andrade in the main event against Luke Keeler.
