There will be a final “Showtime Championship Boxing” broadcast after all.

krikya360.com has learned that Premier Boxing Champions has scrapped its plans for what would’ve been a Showtime Pay-Per-View event December 9 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Showtime instead will televise a three-bout show live on the network December 16 from The Armory in Minneapolis.

The fights for the “Showtime Championship Boxing” tripleheader December 16 have not been solidified. That card is not expected to include two of the more expensive fights that were supposed to make up half of the pay-per-view show that was in the works for December 9 – Eimantas Stanionis-Keith Thurman and Erislandy Lara-Danny Garcia.

It was not clear at the time this story was posted if a third fight that tentatively was scheduled for December 9 – a lightweight rematch between Chris Colbert and Jose Valenzuela – will be part of the December 16 telecast. David Morrell Jr. (9-0, 8 KOs), the Cuban southpaw who once resided in Minneapolis, is expected to defend his WBA secondary super middleweight title against an opponent to be determined in Showtime’s main event December 16.

The WBA world welterweight title bout between Lithuania’s Stanionis (14-0, 9 KOs, 1 NC) and Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs, 1 NC), a former WBA/WBC welterweight champ from Clearwater, Florida, and the WBA middleweight championship clash in which Cuba’s Lara (29-3-3, 17 KOs) will face Philadelphia’s Garcia (37-3, 21 KOs) will be scheduled for some time early in 2024.

Paramount Global, the parent company of Showtime and krikya360.com, announced October 17 that the company will shut down its Showtime Sports department as of December 29 (//krikya360.com/paramount-global-shut-down-showtime-sports-network-no-longer-broadcast-boxing--178546). The decision will end the premium cable network’s 37-year run as a prominent American boxing broadcaster next month.

Showtime will produce two more live events before it exits the boxing business.

The first of those two shows is scheduled for November 25, when unbeaten super middleweights David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs), of Phoenix, Arizona, and Demetrius Andrade (32-0, 19 KOs), of Providence, Rhode Island, will headline a Showtime Pay-Per-View event from Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas. The final Showtime telecast will take place three weeks later in Minneapolis.
