Manny Pacquiao’s opponent changed, but the cost to watch his upcoming pay-per-view fight won’t be altered.

krikya360.com has confirmed through a FOX Sports spokesman that the network’s suggested retail price for the four-fight show headlined by Pacquiao and Yordenis Ugas on August 21 will remain $74.95. Satellite and cable companies can charge more than the price suggested by the distributor of an event, but the cost typically doesn’t fluctuate by more than $5.

The suggested retail price of $74.95 was set when Pacquiao was scheduled to challenge undefeated, unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. It is the same price FOX and Premier Boxing Champions charged for Pacquiao’s last fight – a 12-round, split-decision victory over Keith Thurman in July 2019 – and Showtime and PBC charged for Pacquiao’s points win against Adrien Broner in January 2019.

The Cuban-born Ugas (26-4, 12 KOs), the WBA “super” welterweight champion, officially replaced Spence as Pacquiao’s opponent on Tuesday. Though a world champion, the lesser-known Ugas isn’t as accomplished or as dangerous as Spence and will make significantly less money for opposing Pacquiao than Spence would’ve earned.

Spence was forced to withdraw from their highly anticipated showdown after a tear to his right retina was detected during an extensive eye exam Monday in Las Vegas. The Nevada State Athletic Commission required that test as part of its licensing procedure.

The 31-year-old Spence, of DeSoto, Texas, underwent surgery to repair his injury Wednesday in Dallas. Spence (27-0, 21 KOs), who holds the IBF and WBC 147-pound championships, is expected to make a full recovery and return to the ring at some point in 2022.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old Pacquiao will attempt to regain the WBA’s legitimate welterweight title a week from Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The WBA stripped Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) of its “super” 147-pound championship late in January due to inactivity. The Panama-based sanctioning organization then promoted Ugas from world champion to “super” champion.

Ugas won the WBA’s world welterweight title last September 6, when he beat Abel Ramos (27-4-2, 21 KOs) by split decision in a 12-round fight FOX aired from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Miami’s Ugas was supposed to make an optional defense of his championship against Argentina’s Fabian Maidana (18-1, 13 KOs) on the Pacquiao-Spence undercard, but Maidana suffered a cut in sparring that caused him to withdraw from that 12-round bout.

An appreciative Ugas gladly replaced Spence on the same day he learned that Maidana was injured.

FOX’s four-fight show August 21 also will include a 10-round featherweight fight between the Philippines’ Mark Magsayo (22-0, 15 KOs) and Mexico’s Julio Ceja (32-4-1, 28 KOs). Another 10-round bout between two former WBC welterweight champions from California, Robert Guerrero (36-6-1, 20 KOs) and Victor Ortiz (32-6-3, 25 KOs), also will be part of FOX’s pay-per-view telecast.

FOX’s fourth pay-per-view fight for this altered card, Carlos Castro-Oscar Escandon, was announced Thursday. Showtime was supposed to televise their 10-round featherweight fight August 28, but Phoenix’s Castro (26-0, 11 KOs) and Colombia’s Escandon (26-5, 18 KOs) were moved to this card because super middleweight contender David Benavidez contracted COVID-19 and that card was postponed Wednesday.
