O’Shaquie Foster is enjoying his stint as a world champion. His time near the top of the 130-pound division, however, nearly came to an end.
At the tail end of 2023, Eduardo Hernandez found himself well ahead on the cards in his showdown against Foster. With his WBC title on the verge of slipping through his fingers, Foster gave it everything he had. Luckily for him, it worked as he scored the late stoppage win. This Friday night, Foster is hoping for an easier time when he takes on Abraham Nova.
The 30-year-old Puerto Rican is a dangerous super featherweight, Foster knows it. So all throughout training camp, he focused solely on dominating him. If he takes care of business, the pragmatic move would be for Foster to turn his attention toward one of his fellow champions. That decision, nevertheless, bores him.
Instead, the WBC belt holder has his eyes set on eventually moving up in weight. No, one division wouldn’t be enough. A move three weight classes north? Now that intrigues him.
Foster isn’t a brainless fighter. He knows that the welterweight division is currently inhabited by world-class scrapers. There is one fighter, however, that he would love to get his hands on.
Conor Benn’s name is on fire at the moment. He’s young, brash, talented, and talks a good game. All of those ingredients make him a desirable opponent for Foster. If Benn can somehow find a way to grab a trinket, Foster recently admitted that a fight with him is one that he would want above all else.
“If he wins a belt at 47, I’ll go up there and spank him,” Foster told krikya360.com.
Just a few short weeks ago, Benn made his second consecutive American appearance. So far, he’s made the most of his stateside trips, including a lopsided victory over Peter Dobson.
A packed crowd at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada, watched Benn cruise to victory. Foster was amongst them who checked him out. Although he did grab the win without breaking a sweat, Foster wasn’t dazzled by his performance.
“Not at all,” said Foster when asked if he was impressed. “Not even a little bit. He food.”
