Former world champion Orlando 'Siri' Salido achieved more than anyone could have predicted in boxing.
The world recognized him for his dedication, his courage, his toughness, his bravery and the power of his fists.
Salido (44-14-4, 31 KO) achieved unthinkable victories, taking on and stopping a then undefeated 'Juanma' López, before a hostile crowd in Puerto Rico, and also shocked the sport when he decisioned current star Vasiliy Lomachenko, and he traded vicious blows with Francisco 'Bandido' Vargas in a Fight of The Year.
At the moment Salido is pursing his the next chapter of his life, as a political figure in Mexico. His last boxing match took place in December 2017, when he was stopped by Miguel Roman.
"I am as a local deputy, here in the wave of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (current president of Mexico). I was elected deputy and we continue to work, taking initiatives, reforming laws, there we learn little by little. There are many proposals (to continue in politics), but you have to walk little by little to starting running," Salido told ESPN Deportes.
"I do miss [boxing], but I start training and it takes that away. I started from scratch, wanting to climb to the top, wanting to be someone in boxing. I never had anyone's support, what I did I won for myself, opportunities came to me, I did not let them go by and thank God I got to where I was. I am happy with what I did in my career. I started boxing looking for an opportunity, thank God the doors were opened to me. People recognize me because I was always a warrior in the ring, I always went up to give a show, to give a fight to the liking of all of them.
"The (first) fight with Juanma López [was my favorite fight], he was number one in the division. I had everything against me, it is the one that I enjoyed the most and the one that I think everyone enjoyed the most."
